This component project has as its central themes the evaluation, adaptation and representation of mathematical models to estimate the balance of GHG in the various biophysical processes that occur in livestock production systems.

The carbon balance in animal production systems in Brazil is been estimated using internationally recognized methodologies. The generation of reliable estimates, requires that emissions and removals are measured accurately for each greenhouse gas. In a second step, such estimates must be generalized as to geographic scope and technology by means of mathematical models. Such models should enable the elaboration of national inventories and evaluation of mitigation strategies more accurately than by simply adjusting the results to a larger scale. These tools will provide greater analytical power for the development of mitigation strategies and public policies for the sector.
